This is the first winter that this woodpecker has regularly visited the feeder. He has been a joy to watch. Early this aftermnoon he hit the window with such force that he landed in a snowpile. He was not able to detach himself from the snow and dust the snow off. The beautiful woodpecker is no more as he lies buried head first in the snow. He will be sorely missed by this birdwatcher and to the other wookpeckers as they return from their winter abodes. This is a sad day for the birdwatchers on my street.
